John McAfee, the oddball founder of the antivirus house Intel now owns, got out of jail in Guatemala and – thumbing his nose at the cops in Belize who want to question him about the murder of his neighbor on Ambergris Caye, an island off Belize’s Caribbean coast, where McAfee lived – flew off to Miami Wednesday afternoon.

He was deported after sneaking into the country last week while trying to elude the Belize police and getting arrested.

He was escorted to the airport by a press mob and a police convoy with sirens reportedly blaring. He was quoted as saying, “I’m free. I’m going to America.”

Unlike Guatemala, the US has an extradition treaty with Belize but McAfee hasn’t been charged with any crime.

McAfee claimed his neighbor Gregory Faull poisoned his dogs and that corrupt Belizean authorities were persecuting him, making him fear for his life. He said he refused to donate to local politicians, which sent him on the run for three weeks. He claims he had nothing to do with the murder.

The AP reported being told that a judge ordered his release after finding he was illegally detained by Guatemalan immigration for illegally entering the country last week.

McAfee, who’s been living in Belize for the last three or four years, said he wanted to return to the US “to live comfortably day by day, fish, swim [and] enjoy my declining years” with his 20-year-old Belizean girlfriend. His lawyer Telesforo Guerra said that would be his client’s best option. “In Guatemala, he runs the risk that anything could happen to him.”

His girlfriend Sam apparently didn’t make the flight. The British-born McAfee blogged that “I have been forcibly separated from Sam,” but claimed she would be coming to the United States later.

Apparently McAfee also managed to sell off movie rights to his life story to a Canadian production company which is now seeking investors for the film.
