Well, that's 3,000 employees HP won't have to lay off. General Motors is taking IT in-house and has hired them. The idea reportedly was GM CIO Randy Mott's and Mott was HP's CIO before short-lived HP CEO Léo Apotheker was fired. HP still means to terminate 29,000 jobs. The carmaker means to trim its data centers from 23 to two, cut the 4,000 apps it uses by ~40% and create two software development centers in Michigan. It's also buying some Vertica and Autonomy software from HP.
