ManageIQ says that when the management majors - and you know who that foursome is - saw the cloud bearing down on them like a Kansas tornado they ducked into the basement and scrawled cloud all over their wares to salvage their position.
Its point is you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Legacy stuff ain't cloud-worthy.
A few days ago ManageIQ announced EVM Version 5, a unified cloud management scheme that provisions and manages IT services across physical, virtual, private and public cloud infrastructures including Amazon.
The release builds on ManageIQ's experience servicing enterprise IT organizations, including some Fortune 1000s they can name, so they can adopt and manage virtualized private clouds.
ManageIQ has a following. It may be only be six-years-old but the boys there have done this sort of thing before and sold Novadigm to HP back in 2004.
By extending EVM management capabilities, including provisioning, resource management, monitoring, governance and compliance to public cloud platforms, ManageIQ provides a single enterprise-class platform for adopting and managing hybrid clouds.
And, of course hybrid is supposed to be the approach that tickles the fancy of the enterprise the most, leaving ManageIQ well-positioned.

ManageIQ figures it takes real-time management and automation capabilities that are "unified by design" - not loosely coupled point-tool integrations that leave visibility, governance and automation gaps - to deliver and manage IT services effectively across hybrid clouds.
It addresses these requirements architecturally through a common Adaptive Management Platform that offers continuous closed-loop management, tightly coupling provisioning with configuration, resource and workload automation.
The enterprise also gets a single pane of glass to see and control all the stuff happening on the ground and in the ether across enterprise clouds and globally distributed data centers.
EVM delivers self-service provisioning and management across hypervisors and cloud providers for optimal service delivery based on business policies, service levels and cost.
Pitney Bowes Software is one of ManageIQ's customers. It says, "Our users go to the EVM portal, select the services they need and provision them in minutes rather than days. The EVM self-service portal lets users control and operate their services independently within our IT governance model. This enables us to deliver high-quality services to our users in a very cost-effective way."
The EVM V5 widgetry includes metering/chargeback, adaptive automation and policy-based orchestration with role-based executive, operational and user dashboards. Usage and metering information can be federated into financial management systems for billing and chargeback.
One can expect support for IT services ranging from simple single systems to complex n-tier systems delivered from a self-service portal as well as through other enterprise service catalogs and portals.
EVM V5's out-of-the-box integration with other enterprise management systems like, say, Amazon's CloudWatch maximizes operational efficiencies and leverages existing IT investments across hybrid clouds.
Figure on policy-based incident and alert creation, with comprehensive contextual information to reduce mean-time-to-repair and real time discovery and monitoring capabilities to ensure CMDBs are kept accurate and up-to-date.
Supported integrations include ServiceNow, CA, Microsoft Systems Center, BMC, HP, F5 and NetApp, as well as RESTful and SOAP-based management web services.
OpenStack and vCloud support should be out by Q4.
EVM V5 will be generally available on September 30.
